POSTER_final.jpg

ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) and partners will host a digital press conference on Thursday April 9, 2pm Indonesia Western Standard Time (WIB), detailing concerns regarding Indonesia’s Draft Penal Code, as parliament prepares to resume deliberations.

APHR and other civil society groups have raised several issues about the current version of the bill, including how it violates the rights of women, members of the LGBTIQ community and religious minorities, and warn that to ensure inclusive public participation, amendments should not be discussed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the press conference, APHR will release a detailed analysis about major human rights concerns regarding the Draft Penal Code from the perspective of Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB).

The press conference will be hosted on Zoom (please see more information below) and moderated by Desi Hanara, APHR’s Regional Coordinator for FoRB. The panel will include Eva Kusuma Sundari, APHR Board Member, and a politician from Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), parliamentarian Taufik Basari, Bonar Tigor Naipospos, the Vice Chair of Setara Institute, and Ifitahsari, from the Institute for Criminal Justice and Reform (ICJR). It will be followed by a Question and Answer session.

The press conference will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia
